PLA4.1

Q&A

PLA4.2: ALU_9bit prototype measurements

PLA6_7

Lab4.2

NOTE: This post lab assignment is solved only after having completed the experimental lab session Lab4.2 because you will discuss and report measurements and pre-lab questions of interest

Specifications

This is the first time we have a report on experiments and lab measurements. Some interesting questions to answer are for example:

1. Draw a sketch of the experiment and a flowchart of the sequence of measurements and ideas.

2 Solve a pre-lab question that you find interesting or relevant ===> For example the EXAM1 --> P1 that is focused in this ALU_9bit ans some of its internal components. Review the concepts on logic bitwise operations, arithmetic operations using 2C, sign bit. Apply more input vectors if necessary.

3. Propagation delay measurement from B(0) to C. In this special case, exceptionally, we imagine that the operands are radix-2 numbers. If you have not got real prototype measurements, you can use measurements from the timing analyser and gate-level simulations.

4. Power consumption at 1 kHz (static, low frequency). If you have not got real measurements, discuss how this value can be inferred.

5. Power consumption at 5 MHz (static + dynamic). If you have not got real measurements, discuss how this value can be inferred.

P_Ch1 marking grid for projects PLA1.1, PLA1.2, PLA2, PLA3 and PLA4.1 and PLA4.2

P_Ch1 represents 15% of the final grade:

=> PLA1.1 (10%) + PLA1.2 (20%) + PLA2 (10%) + PLA3 (group, report + video, 40%) + PLA4.1 (10%) + PLA4.2 (10%)

Work in progress assessments to be carried out in laboratory sessions (individual)
  PLA1.1 PLA1.2
1p 2p

Note Work in progress includes completing tutorials, sample reports, sketches, diagrams, discussions, Q & A, presentations, live demonstrations, results, measurements, etc.

Work in progress assessments to be carried out in laboratory sessions (group)
      PLA2 PLA4.1 PLA4.2
    1p 1p 1p
PLA3 handwritten report and video presentation (group):
Video Report
  2p 2p

Notes on lab assessment: student grades are not simply reflecting report or video quality, but implicitly, they include laboratory attendance and punctuality, participation, Q & A, problem solving skills, active attitude and group work.

Reflect and give us your group feedback on what you learned in chapter 1 (from P1 to P4). Add a short paragraph in the final section of your PLA4.2 discussing aspects that you consider positive and negative.
